“Women’s issues aren’t just women’s issues, but issues of humankind.”
– Minna Canth –
The year 2019 was the 175th anniversary of the birth of Minna Canth (1844-1897), a Finnish writer and social activist. MC175 – Minna Canthin liike ja liekki is a co-production between the Jyväskylä City Theater and Tanssiteatteri Kramppi. The piece is based on Canth’s writings and personal letters and it premieres a completely new script, which is brought to life through dance, music and acting.
The small stage of the City Theater is turned into a salon, where everyone is welcome. Seven performers are playing, moving, singing — bringing women and people from different eras on stage. Equal bodies and everyday experiences as well as popular culture and stereotypes — all together, visible, side by side.
