Vilja Mihalovsky (1994, FI) is a choreographer, performer and creative writer living in Berlin.
She studied contemporary dance, improvisation and performance research in North Karelia College Outokumpu, graduating in 2017. In July 2019 she finished her studies at the Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz Berlin (HZT) with a B.A. in Dance, Context, Choreography. In 2018 she was selected as a grant recipient by the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. At the moment she is doing her M.A. in Culture and Media Management at the Freie Universität Berlin.
She has (both in- and outside the university) been working with and performing for choreographers such as Kareth Schaffer, Tomi Paasonen, Sheena McGrandles and Marjo Kuusela and has been performing and working actively in Germany and Finland. She has been a member of Dance Theater Kramppi (FI) since 2011 and was a board member during the years 2019 and 2020.
Her interest lies in the conversation between language and movement: different narratives of different bodies –the female body, the somatic body, the wise body– what is getting lost and found in translation between movement and text. Her own recent works include the solo the truth & other stories (2019), a theatrical hybrid piece MC175 – Minna Canthin liike ja liekki (2019) together with Laura Lehtinen, and a quintet of solos “Making Money is Art” A.W. (2016).
