Neljä laulua naisista

Neljä laulua naisista (Four Songs About Women) is the latest duet piece by Vilja Mihalovsky and Ninni Tuovila, inspired by the Finnish national epic Kalevala (1849) and the different stories and fates of the women in it. Aino, Louhi, Lemminkäinen’s Mother and Ilmatar all play important roles in the epic, but are easily reduced to wives and mothers when seen through the eyes of men. Now they are brought from supporting roles to the main stage as complete characters of their own stories. Mihalovsky and Tuovila are reflecting their own experiences of being a woman in the 2020’s and mirroring these thoughts to the narratives of the women of Kalevala.

“Samos sielu pellon pieltä
Keho tietöntä taivalta
Katsehella avaralla
Koko maailman tavoitti
Utelias unelmoija
Kuuntelija tuulten laulun”
